Board of Governors Acting Chairman James Bilbray recently received the Distinguished Nevadan Award for his contributions to the state.
The Nevada System of Higher Education presents the award to individuals who’ve shaped the state’s “cultural, scientific or social advancement.”
Bilbray served in the Nevada State Senate and later, the U.S. House of Representatives.
In 2006, President George W. Bush appointed him to the Board of Governors, which directs Postal Service expenditures, conducts long-range planning and sets policies, among other duties.
Past Distinguished Nevadans include newspaper publisher Albert Cahlan, former Gov. Paul Laxalt and businessman Steve Wynn.
