The CyberSafe at USPS team is offering tips to help employees guard against an expected increase in ransomware and new, more complex threats next year.
These attacks occur when a user clicks on a fraudulent link or site, prompting a pop-up message that the computer is locked until money is paid.
To protect yourself, follow these tips:
- Don’t click on suspicious pop-up advertisements or sites.
- Use caution when clicking email links and attachments.
- Back up your data in case you need to erase your hard drive or reset your device if attacked.
If you become a victim of ransomware, don’t engage with the hacker. Notify your manager immediately and report the incident to the CyberSecurity Operations Center at CyberSafe@usps.gov.
