The Postal Service reminds employees of the importance of staying safe and cool throughout the summer season.
Employees should stay hydrated before, during and after work. Research shows you should drink at least 8 ounces of water every 20 minutes to stay hydrated.
Dressing appropriately for weather conditions is critical for staying healthy. On warm days, make sure to wear lightly colored, loose fitting, breathable clothing to keep body temperatures down.
Stay out of direct sunlight if possible, and use shaded areas to stay cool.
Know the signs of heat stress, including:
- Hot, dry skin or profuse sweating
- Headaches
- Confusion or dizziness
- Nausea
- Muscle cramps
- Weakness or fatigue
- Rashes
If you or another employee experience signs of heat-related illnesses, notify your supervisor immediately.
