The Postal Inspection Service employees who use “CSI”-style science to investigate mail crime have received a stamp of approval from their peers.
The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board recently accredited the Inspection Service’s forensic laboratory division.
Accreditation in the international program is granted after a thorough evaluation of lab management systems, technical procedures and practices. The Inspection Service met or exceeded all of the approximately 400 requirements.
“This successful accreditation was the result of more than two years of preparation and commitment by every member of the Forensic Laboratory Services Division,” said Laboratory Director Patricia Manzolillo.
The Inspection Service’s forensic division, which recently marked its 75th anniversary, operates a national lab that conducts forensic analysis and 18 digital evidence labs that perform computer forensics.
