The Postal Service dedicated its U.S. Coast Guard Academy stamp in New London, CT, on Sept. 12.
The stamp marks the 150th anniversary of the school, which provides cadets with the skills and experiences they need to safeguard America’s waterways and maritime infrastructure.
“I hope this stamp will serve as a reminder of how the cadets who graduate from the academy will serve with bravery and excellence and follow the Coast Guard motto: Semper Paratus — Always Ready,” said Marc McCrery, USPS customer experience vice president and dedicating official.
The stamp artwork features two iconic U.S. Coast Guard vessels: the USCGC Eagle, a tall sailing ship used for training, and the modern Legend-class national security cutter USCGC Bertholf, whose missions include maritime drug interdiction and securing the maritime border.
The stamp was designed by Antonio Alcalá, an art director for USPS.
Joining McCrery for the ceremony were master of ceremonies Kevin Booker Jr., a visiting professor at Mitchell College; Michael Passero, New London mayor; U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. Gregory Rothrock, superintendent of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy; Capt. Kristopher Ensley, commanding officer of the USCGC Eagle; and Margarida Martins-Querido, president of OpSail Connecticut.
