USPS employees and city of Las Vegas staff members held a star-spangled celebration of America’s 250th anniversary at the James C. Brown Post Office.

Nevada and New Mexico may not have been in the union in 1776, but two postmasters in those states brought America’s 250th anniversary home in meaningful ways.

At the James C. Brown Post Office in Las Vegas, Postmaster Justine Valadez held a festive, red-white-and-blue affair bringing employees together with city staff.

Strategic Communications Specialist Sherry Patterson shared information on the Bald Eagle: Hatchling to Adult and American Icons stamps, Nevada-Utah District Manager Don Kravos offered USPS facts, and Valadez spoke about postal history with an emphasis on how the organization has bound the nation together for 250 years.

“Seeing everyone dressed in red, white and blue helped make the day memorable,” Valadez said. “We were especially honored to have Nevada-Utah District leadership there. It truly made the celebration extra special.”

In Penasco, NM, the Post Office marked the milestone with a large patriotic display and served doughnuts to customers.

Postmaster Pearla Sanchez said the display offered an opportunity to recognize veterans of the U.S. armed forces.

“We felt it was important to do something to show appreciation of past, present and future service members, as well as reflect on what a great country we live in,” Sanchez said.
