Drive-by rescue

Fountain Valley, CA, Letter Carrier Jonathan Paterson

Letter Carrier Jonathan Paterson was on his route in Fountain Valley, CA, when he encountered a customer who had fallen flat on the pavement.

“I was crying for help, but no one could hear me,” the customer, Maria Chavez, said. “Jon was driving by, saw me lying there and stopped to help.”

The Postal Service employee checked Chavez for a concussion and any other injuries. He was about to call 911 but Chavez asked that he call her son instead, which he did.

Paterson then got the customer into her house, rendered first aid and stayed with her until her son arrived.

Emergency services later transported Chavez to a hospital.
