Employee helps send care packages to soldiers

Sherry Fabian packs cookies, flashlights, games and other items for deployed troops.

Sherry Fabian, the Cambridge, NY, postmaster, described her work with Operation Adopt A Soldier in a recent issue of The Eagle.

The nonprofit organization sends care packages of toothpaste, shampoo, socks, batteries, snacks and other items to deployed troops.

Fabian started as a volunteer packing boxes alongside her son, who was fulfilling a community service requirement for school. She now serves as the group’s treasurer.

Fabian, who had family members in the military, knows how welcome these care packages are to men and women stationed far from home.

They miss “the simple things we take for granted,” she said.

In 2021, Operation Adopt A Soldier sent 2,605 parcels to more than 500 troops serving overseas.

The Eagle is mailed to employees’ homes and is also available on Newsroom, a USPS online news hub.
