Sales, ads on postal property restricted

The prohibition of sales on Postal Service property includes homemade items and items raising money for a good cause.

The Postal Service is reminding employees to be conscious of sales and advertising activities conducted on postal property.

Federal regulations prohibit commercial sales and advertising on postal property without a valid contract with USPS.

Employees who are on duty, in uniform or on postal property also may not engage in any type of sales activities on behalf of themselves or any other person.

This extends to selling homemade items at work — even if the funds are being donated to a good cause.

Managers should not allow on-site sales activities by employees or nonpostal organizations, including mail or telephone solicitations directed at employees.

Employees who have questions should call the USPS Ethics Office helpline at 202-268-6346 or send an email to ethics.help@usps.gov.
