Like a good neighbor

Arkansas City, KS, Letter Carrier Johnna Haynes

Letter Carrier Johnna Haynes was recently making deliveries in Arkansas City, KS, when she grew concerned about a customer whose mail had piled up unusually over several days.

Haynes contacted the local Post Office, where Customer Services Supervisor Alice McKee called 911.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and found the man lying on the floor, unable to reach food or water.

He was taken to a hospital and is recovering from the incident.

Haynes, as well as McKee, were subsequently honored with Good Neighbor Awards from the Arkansas City Commission.

Police Detective Lt. Jason Legleiter, who presented the awards at a commission meeting, said the customer’s condition could have become fatal if Haynes had not acted on her concern.
