Postal vehicle ethics

Penalties stiff for unauthorized use

Postal Service vehicles should not be used for unauthorized purposes, including for personal uses.

Postal Service vehicles should be used for one purpose only: official, authorized business.

Postal employees should not use a postal vehicle for any unauthorized personal uses, like commuting between work and home, running a personal errand or to do work for a second job.

Email etravelhelp@usps.gov with any questions about use of a postal vehicle while on detail or postal travel.

Unauthorized use of postal vehicles violates the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch and federal law.

Penalties are steep and include mandatory suspension without pay for at least one month and further penalties where appropriate, up to and including removal from the Postal Service.

Employees who have questions should contact the USPS Ethics Office helpline at 202-268-6346 or send an email to ethics.help@usps.gov.
