Letter Carrier Malynda Schabel was recently delivering mail in a Lansing, MI, neighborhood when she spotted four toddlers playing close to a busy street near a residence.
Concerned that the children appeared to be unsupervised, Schabel kept an eye on them while she worked.
She was alarmed to see them walking toward the street and yelled for them to stop, but the youngest of the group — an 18-month-old — kept going.
The Postal Service employee ran to the little girl and picked her up, then led the group to the residence, where a woman brought the kids inside.
“Malynda’s actions were instrumental in saving at least one child from harm,” said Kimberley Dontje, the local postmaster.
