Letter Carrier Jacob Pierce was recently delivering mail in Monmouth, IL, when he encountered a crisis at a customer’s home:
Pierce saw that the porch was on fire, so he sprang into action.
The Postal Service employee immediately called 911, then grabbed a garden hose attached to the house and extinguished the blaze.
Firefighters soon arrived on the scene.
Monmouth Postmaster Jill Sollenberger later celebrated Pierce at the local Post Office with ice cream and a cake depicting his brave act.
