Letter Carrier Thomas Oja was delivering mail one day last year in a Stuart, FL, neighborhood when a woman exited a residence and yelled for help.
Oja rushed to aid the woman, who was a caregiver for a customer inside who had collapsed.
While she called 911, the Postal Service employee hurried to assist the sick man, who wasn’t breathing and had turned purple.
Oja performed CPR on the customer until paramedics arrived and took over.
The man was hospitalized and recovered from the incident.
“The heroic effort by Thomas was critical to saving this customer’s life,” said Stuart Postmaster Kristopher Novy.
