Letter Carrier James LaShelle was recently making deliveries in a Clinton, IA, neighborhood when he grew concerned about a disruption in a customer’s routine.
The man normally sits by a window in his home and waves at LaShelle daily, but he had not done so in a couple of days, nor had he retrieved his mail.
The Postal Service employee arranged for one of the customer’s friends to investigate, and the man was found lying on the floor, in dire need of medical attention.
He had collapsed after sustaining a serious shoulder injury while walking his dog, which had pulled on its leash during an altercation with other canines.
Paramedics were dispatched to the scene, and the customer was hospitalized for several days.
The man is recovering from the incident.
