Letter carrier’s tip leads to $75,000 deal

Kijuaun Weatherspoon, a Plano, TX, letter carrier, used Customer Connect to generate new revenue for USPS.

A Texas letter carrier’s sales lead has resulted in a shipping deal worth more than $75,000 for the Postal Service.

Kijuaun Weatherspoon, who works at the Plano Main Post Office, talked with a business customer who was interested in a cost-saving way to ship their products.

She submitted a lead through Customer Connect, a joint program with the National Association of Letter Carriers, encouraging carriers to identify sales opportunities for USPS.

Jenny Yoo, a customer relations specialist, and Tarina Johnson, a senior territory representative, followed up with the customer. They closed a shipping deal worth $75,238 in new estimated annualized revenue for the Postal Service.

Sales generated from Customer Connect leads count toward the USPS Every Lead Counts campaign to raise revenue through sales leads from employees.

“Kijuaun engages with her customers along her route,” said Lou DeRienzo, a small-business senior specialist at USPS headquarters in Washington, DC. “In doing so, she identifies new business opportunities for the Postal Service — and opportunities to help her customers save money.”

The Postal Service is encouraging as many employees as possible to submit at least one lead through any of its six lead programs by Sept. 30.
