The Postal Service will release a set of nondenominated stamps that celebrate two flowers that are catnip for butterflies.
The stamps, which will debut Feb. 1, are intended for use by authorized nonprofit organizations.
The two blooms are scabiosa, sometimes called pincushion flower because of its resemblance to a pincushion loaded with pins, and cosmos, also known as Mexican aster.
Antonio Alcalá designed the stamps with original art by Rigel Stuhmiller.
Stuhmiller hand-carved the images onto a block, which she then inked and pressed onto paper. The paper images were then digitally scanned to add color.
The Butterfly Garden Flowers stamps will be sold in coils of 3,000 and 10,000. Each includes the two designs.
