Courageous countdown: No. 7

Menomonee Falls, WI, City Carrier Assistant Kara Dahl

Link is looking back at the year in “Heroes’ Corner” with a countdown of the 10 most-viewed articles.

Coming in at No. 7 is “FedEx flip,” the story of Kara Dahl.

The city carrier assistant was delivering mail in Menomonee Falls, WI, when she came upon the scene of an accident that left a FedEx truck overturned.

Dahl immediately stopped, determined that a bystander had called 911, and rushed to check on the injured driver, who asked her for help reaching his wife and his manager by phone.

The Postal Service employee happily obliged, and she stayed with him until emergency responders arrived.

“His comments several days later were that in the midst of the stress and disorientation, he just remembers what a calming influence Kara was,” said Menomonee Falls Customer Services Supervisor Gail Gephart. “He was so grateful for her presence that day.”

If you know of heroic colleagues like Dahl, the Postal Service wants to know about them, too.

Employees recognized through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program must be nominated for the award. Corporate Communications reviews nominations for accuracy, then sends them to the Postal Inspection Service and the Office of Inspector General for approval.

Following approval, each nominee receives a commendation letter from Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

Honorees are also featured in Link’s “Heroes’ Corner” column.

To nominate an employee, complete PS Form 400, Corporate Communications PMG Hero Nomination, and email it to PMG_HeroNominations@usps.gov.
