Letter Carrier Jerry Willis was recently delivering mail at an apartment complex in Niles, MI, when he grew concerned about an older customer.
The man, who lived alone, had not picked up his mail in a week, nor had he called the local Post Office about a medication package — as he normally would — that Willis had attempted to deliver.
Unable to reach anyone in the office at the complex, the letter carrier alerted Acting Customer Services Supervisor Lynn Terrell, who asked police to check on the customer.
Officers found the man deceased.
“I am proud of Jerry for looking out for the welfare of our customers,” Terrell said. “I am amazed by how well we know our customers and notice when something is wrong.”
