Letter Carrier Scott Backer was recently making deliveries in a Clawson, MI, neighborhood when he noticed an older customer doing yardwork near her driveway.
After Backer put the woman’s mail in the box on her front porch, he turned to wave at her and saw that she was lying on the ground.
The Postal Service employee rushed to the customer’s side and found that she was bleeding profusely after falling and striking her head on the driveway pavement.
Backer immediately called 911 and comforted the woman until paramedics arrived.
“The customer lives alone and could have been there for a very long time before anyone else may have noticed she was badly hurt,” said local Postmaster Brenda Ernst.
The woman is recovering from the incident.
