City Carrier Assistant Jonathan Staib was recently making deliveries in Paris, TN, when he grew worried about an 82-year-old customer whose mail was piling up.
Staib knew that the woman normally retrieved her mail daily, so he alerted a neighbor of hers, who contacted police.
Officers checked on the customer and found her in dire need of medical attention for injuries she sustained when she fell in her kitchen several days earlier.
She was soon flown to a hospital 60 miles away in Jackson.
“If Jonathan had not taken time to ask about this elderly customer on a route he only carries once a week, I hate to think what could have happened to her,” said Paris Postmaster James Powell.
