September is National Preparedness Month, a reminder that emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere without notice — and that the time to prepare is before a disaster happens.
Before a natural disaster or another emergency strikes at work, it’s important for Postal Service employees to know their facility’s emergency action plan. Talk to your manager or supervisor if you have questions.
To be ready at home, ensure you have created your own readiness plan. Start by asking the following questions:
- What is my family or household communication plan?
- How will my family and I receive emergency alerts and warnings?
- What is our shelter plan?
- What is our evacuation route?
- Do we need to update our emergency preparedness kit?
