Beginning Sept. 1, the Postal Service will no longer offer dual-use Priority Mail Express and Priority Mail boxes 1 and 2.
The boxes were created to allow customers the option to mail packages using either Priority Mail Express or Priority Mail. The boxes also allowed customers to reduce the space needed to store packaging at their location.
After analyzing customers’ use of the boxes, USPS determined 95 percent of dual-use boxes are used for Priority Mail shipments.
After Sept. 1, the Postal Service is advising employees to provide customers with alternatives to the boxes that are identical in size.
The alternative options for dual-use box 1 are Priority Mail Express box 1 and the medium-size Priority Mail Flat Rate Box 1, while the alternative options for dual-use box 2 are Priority Mail Express box 2 and the medium-size Priority Mail Flat Rate Box 2.
