Letter Carrier Diane Amoia was recently delivering mail in a Buffalo, NY, neighborhood when she found a note from a customer indicating that he had harmed himself and needed her to contact police.
Amoia immediately called 911 and remained on the scene until emergency responders arrived.
The man’s ex-wife later mailed a letter to the local Post Office.
“I want to commend Ms. Amoia for her actions and thank her and the other postal workers whom we depend on in ways we generally don’t even think about,” she wrote. “She protected my children from witnessing firsthand this family tragedy. This is dedication beyond all expectations.”
The customer added: “What a caring and selfless deed! Our mail carriers are a valued part of our neighborhoods and communities. They do so much more than bring the mail.”
