USPS dedicates newest stamp

USPS Corporate Communications Vice President Janice Walker and John Graves, a Phoenix acting retail specialist who performed the national anthem, display Let’s Celebrate! stamp artwork before the dedication ceremony.

Celebrations bring people together — and now there’s a new stamp to make that easier.

Let’s Celebrate! — a stamp that can be used to add a festive touch to greeting cards, invitations, gift-bearing envelopes and packages — was dedicated Feb. 14 at a stamp show in Mesa, AZ.

“The bright and cheery stamp is filled with vibrant, exciting circles like a burst of confetti,” said Janice Walker, the Postal Service’s corporate communications vice president, who spoke at the ceremony. “The Let’s Celebrate! stamp will help send cheer and a dash of fun through the mail.”

The ceremony was part of Aripex, an annual philatelic exhibition organized by the Arizona Federation of Stamp Clubs. Other speakers included Tina M. Sweeney, Post Office operations manager for Arizona/New Mexico District; Elizabeth Hisey, co-founder of Women Exhibitors, part of the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors; and Chris Lazaroff, an executive committee board member for the American First Day Cover Society.

The stamp, which is available at Post Offices nationwide and usps.com, is the third Celebrate! release. Previous releases were in 2007 and 2011.

In his remarks, Lazaroff noted that he helped dedicate the previous stamps, too.

“Now I get to do the third Celebrate, which is really kind of neat,” he said.
