My name is Carol Capone and I’ve been with the Postal Service for 33 years. For the past year and a half, I have served as the human resources manager for Los Angeles District.
I oversee learning and development, injury and workers’ compensation, safety, employee assistance, labor, staffing and hiring. In all, I have more than 80 people who report to me throughout the district.
I also work closely with the law department, the Office of Inspector General and the Postal Inspection Service.
For me, safety is a big priority. I spend a lot of time thinking about ways to improve safety. Other districts have reached out to us for our ideas on safety, emergency preparedness and dog-bite prevention.
I began my postal career in 1987 as a letter carrier in Oxnard, CA. I transferred to New York and became a supervisor, then Postmaster in Saratoga. I was the first woman Postmaster in Saratoga. After returning to California, I became a customer services manager and then a station manager before becoming the district’s HR manager.
I have two adult daughters and three grandsons, ages 6 and 4, and one who is 10 months old. They are all here in California near me.
During my free time, I like to hike and go bicycling. I live at the base of a mountain in the L.A. foothills, so I have a lot of opportunity to hike and be out in the fresh air.
I’m always looking for people to promote and mentor. I’ve had a lot of people in my career come up to me and ask me what they can do differently. I like to sit back and watch them grow and succeed. It is the best thing ever.
