Postal Service employees can participate in National Wear Red Day, which is held annually to raise awareness of heart disease.
This year’s National Wear Red Day is Friday, Feb. 7.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, accounting for approximately 1 in every 4 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
About half of all Americans have at least one of the three key risk factors for heart disease: high blood pressure, high cholesterol or smoking, CDC reports. Heart disease can be prevented through managing diet, exercise and stress management.
National Wear Red Day is part of American Heart Month, a time to show support for those living with and at risk for heart disease, as well as caregivers.
Employees who participate in National Wear Red Day are required to follow their facility’s dress code or the regulations detailed in Employee Labor Relations Manual, Section 930, Uniform Program.
