Letter Carrier William Compton was recently delivering mail in a Jacksonville, FL, neighborhood when he came upon a toddler who was alone in an empty lot, crying frantically.
Finding no signs of injury or immediate danger, Compton called the local Post Office and calmed the girl until a supervisor arrived to provide further assistance.
It was soon determined that the toddler had wandered away from home while her caregiver was sleeping.
“Due to William’s quick action, the child was returned to her family unharmed,” said Jacksonville Postmaster Wendy English.
