Employees explore careers at meeting

Alabama District Manager Samuel Jaudon, right, meets employees at the career conference.

Employees throughout Alabama District learned about new employment opportunities in the Postal Service at a recent career conference.

The conference, held in Birmingham, allowed participants to network with district leaders, talk with career development professionals, attend workshops and learn about job openings in other parts of the organization.

“This … was an excellent opportunity to talk with representatives from departments that an employee may not have known existed,” said Tony Robinson, a postal inspector who attended his first career conference since the 1990s.

USPS districts hold career conferences throughout the year to provide workers with professional development opportunities. The conferences are part of the organization’s broader efforts to engage, equip and empower employees, a core strategy.

Alexis Duncan, a rural carrier associate at Mastin Lake Station in Huntsville, said the Alabama District event taught her a lot about climbing the ranks in the Postal Service.

“I believe the most vital piece of information I learned was about being mobile. All of the workshop facilitators and booth representatives mentioned how quickly you can advance if you are willing to travel,” Duncan said.

District Manager Samuel Jaudon said the participants’ enthusiasm showed him that many employees are eager to continue their careers with USPS.

“I was very impressed with the number of Alabama employees who were willing to invest in themselves and their career by spending their weekend at the conference,” Jaudon said.
