My name is Stacey Moss, and I’m a retail associate at the Circle City Post Office in Indianapolis. My job is to help customers. I only have a short amount of time with each of them, so it’s important to make it count. If they leave with a good impression, it will give them a positive view of the Postal Service.
I start my day at 6 a.m. by sorting the mail and packages for our letter carriers to deliver. They’re my customers, too. Around lunchtime, I move to the retail window to help customers purchase stamps, mail letters and parcels, and get their delivery and tracking questions answered.
Keeping the office clean and orderly is also important to me. I’ve had a successful day when I leave my workplace the way I found it. I also average about 20,000 steps a day, so work keeps me very active.
I’ve had many responsibilities throughout my 21 years with the Postal Service, including serving as a PO Box clerk and passport agent. Every time a new employee joins our office, I go up to him or her and make myself available. If they have a question and I don’t know the answer, I will find it.
When I leave work, I enjoy taking in the scenery downtown along the Indianapolis Canal, and doing yard work. I also enjoy spending time with my husband, Jason, who has a cool job at a brewery, and my daughter, Lainey Vai. She just graduated from high school with her cosmetology license and works at a salon. We also have three Dachshunds.
I enjoy working at the Postal Service because it offers a stable career that has helped my family.
Times have changed, but my job is essentially the same. People still want to get their mail to a certain place, and they still come into the Post Office. And I’m still here to give them excellent service.
