A weekday walk recently took a disastrous turn for a Princeton, IN, customer and his small dog when they were attacked by a pit bull.
Letter Carrier Mark Schuh, who was delivering mail nearby, heard the commotion and rushed to the man’s defense, using dog repellent spray until the pit bull retreated.
Schuh called animal control and the customer’s wife, who soon arrived to provide further assistance.
The man required stitches, and his dog was gravely injured, but both recovered from the attack.
The customer later visited the Princeton Post Office.
“He wanted to make sure I knew Mark was his hero and had saved the day,” said Postmaster Amanda Wallace.
“We are very glad to have Mark as a longtime member of our team,” she added.
