Seven members of the Western New York District Human Resources team were recently recognized for coming to the aid of a colleague, Marie McDonnell, who experienced a life-threatening medical emergency last year.
Field Recruiter Kathy Deneka alerted others when she discovered McDonnell collapsed and unresponsive.
District Complement Coordinator Frank Filipski and Safety Manager Daniel Welch rendered first aid, soon joined by Occupational Health Nurse Mary Connolly and Occupational Health Nurse Administrator Linda Eschberger.
While Labor Relations Specialist Rebecca Langa called 911, CPR was performed and an AED was used.
Once paramedics arrived, Labor Relations Specialist Sonia Stallworth promptly guided them to the scene.
“There is no doubt that each of the employees helped Marie — in big and small ways — ensuring that she would have a fighting chance of surviving,” said district Human Resources Manager Mary Tarzia. “Because of their quick actions and calm, Marie received treatment and has since returned to work.”
