Letter Carrier Edgar Prosper was delivering mail on a July day in Smyrna, TN, when he noticed a lawn mower running in a customer’s yard.
At first, no one appeared to be around, but upon closer examination, Prosper spotted the customer collapsed nearby.
The Postal Service employee rushed to check on the man, who was experiencing a diabetic seizure complicated by heat exposure.
Prosper alerted a neighbor, who called 911, and stayed with the customer until emergency responders arrived and took him to a hospital.
“Edgar is a Marine Corps veteran, an outstanding employee and a selfless person,” said local Postmaster Rodney Masengale.
