Scanning snapshot. The Postal Service’s national scanning rating was 97.78 percent during the week ending Sept. 21, up from one week earlier.

Dakotas (99.24 percent) topped the districts, while Western (98.02 percent) led the areas.

Stamp releases. The Postal Service’s latest Kwanzaa stamp will be dedicated Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Raleigh, NC. The new Hanukkah stamp, a joint release with Israel Post, will be dedicated Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Newport, RI. USPS announced the locations last week.

Start your engines. The next National Postal Forum will be held from May 5-8 in Indianapolis. The theme will be “Growth Drive: Fueling Your Mailing and Shipping Success.” The NPF site has more information.

Mail by rail. The National Postal Museum in Washington, DC, will host a lecture Oct. 10 on the nation’s first transcontinental mail service from St. Louis-San Francisco. The speaker will be Glen Sample Ely, author of “The Texas Frontier” and “Butterfield Overland Mail, 1858–1861.” The museum’s news release has more information.
