City Carrier Assistant Brian Abeyta was recently driving to work on a rain-slicked canyonside road when a car skidded out of control.
The vehicle wound up overturned precariously against a guardrail protecting it from a steep drop.
Afraid the car would go over, and with traffic at a standstill, Abeyta rushed to aid the trapped driver while another witness called 911.
With shattered glass covering the road, the Postal Service employee helped the driver unbuckle her seatbelt and climb to safety. He then rendered first aid for multiple cuts until first responders arrived.
“In that situation, you just have to take the lead and run to help,” Abeyta said.
