California resident Melanie McMullen and Amarillo, TX, Letter Carrier Becky Adams are longtime Facebook friends.

Why?

They met years ago when Adams was delivering mail to the apartment building where McMullen’s mother lived, and they wanted to stay in touch in case of an emergency.

Recently, when McMullen couldn’t reach her mom, 88-year-old RoJeanne Thomas, she messaged Adams to see if she could check on her while she was delivering mail.

Adams soon located a building manager who opened Thomas’s door, and they discovered her collapsed inside.

The Postal Service employee called 911 and stayed with Thomas until emergency responders arrived. After work that day, she visited the customer — who had suffered two strokes — at a local hospital.

McMullen later contacted Fort Worth District to recognize Adams for her assistance.

“Becky was smart, quick-thinking and a lifesaver, as she got my mom help that might otherwise not have come for hours,” McMullen wrote.

“Sadly, two weeks later, my mom passed away, but Becky’s heroism helped her stay alive for my family to all get to her and say our goodbyes.”
