Cincinnati City Carrier Assistant Cyprian Ugwu was recently delivering mail when he smelled smoke and heard a detector beeping inside a residence.
Ugwu soon spotted flames shooting out of a window, so he alerted a neighbor, who called 911.
Firefighters couldn’t spare the home from extensive damage, but the resident’s five dogs were rescued.
Brian Rose, who was at work during the emergency, later told the local Fox station he was grateful for the Postal Service employee’s responsiveness.
“He saved my dogs,” Rose said. “That’s all I care about.”
