Hegins, PA, Rural Carrier Associate Bonnie Clemmer was recently delivering mail to a residence when she heard someone call for help.
Clemmer spotted a customer on the ground beside a shed, so she rushed to his side and discovered that he’d been stranded for several hours after a tree fell on him while he was cutting it down with a chainsaw.
The Postal Service employee called 911 for the man, who had to be flown to a hospital for treatment of multiple broken bones and a severe head injury.
During the wait for emergency responders, Clemmer located a pillow for the customer and also notified his daughter about the crisis.
