The Postal Service is inviting employees to participate in National Wear Red Day, which is held annually to raise awareness of heart disease.
This year’s National Wear Red Day is Friday, Feb. 2.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, accounting for approximately 1 in every 4 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
About half of all Americans have at least one of the three key risk factors for heart disease: high blood pressure, high cholesterol or smoking, the CDC reports.
National Wear Red Day is part of American Heart Month, a time to show support for those living with heart disease and people at risk for the illness, as well as caregivers.
Heart disease can be prevented through consistent diet, exercise and stress management. USPS employees can use the Wellness Calendar on LiteBlue to learn prevention tips and track their progress throughout February.
Employees who participate in National Wear Red Day are required to follow their facility’s dress code or the regulations detailed in the Employee Labor Relations Manual, Section 930, Uniform Program.
