Postal Service employee Catherine “Catie” Arthur will appear on the “Wheel of Fortune” episode slated to air Monday, Jan. 29.
It’s a dream come true for Arthur, a letter carrier at the Ranson, WV, Post Office and longtime fan of the show.
“My mom and my boyfriend watch ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Jeopardy!’ all the time,” Arthur said. “I’m always really good at ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and they’re always good at ‘Jeopardy!’”
When Arthur heard last October that the show was holding auditions for contestants in Washington, DC, she took a chance and made the hour-long trek to the city.
After she was chosen to be a contestant, Arthur traveled to Los Angeles to tape her appearance alongside host Pat Sajak.
“I didn’t even feel nervous. But when I saw Pat Sajak, that star-struck thing started to kick in. I thought, ‘I’ve got to focus,’” she said with a laugh.
Arthur credits her Postal Service colleagues with helping make her “Wheel of Fortune” experience happen.
“I wouldn’t have been able to do it if it weren’t for [the support of] my supervisors and my co-workers,” she said.
Under terms of condition for the show, Arthur has to stay mum on how the game turned out. Her co-workers, family members and even customers will just have to wait and watch.
Meanwhile, Arthur’s head is still spinning about how she went from watching the show to appearing on it.
“I always thought it would be fun to do it one day,” she said. “It’s funny how it all came together.”
