Watch out for hacked credit card readers

Experts say shielding your PIN number at ATMs can protect you from pinhole cameras designed to steal your information.

The CyberSafe at USPS team is alerting employees about criminals who use hard-to-detect skimmers and pinhole cameras to steal credit card information.

The skimmers and pinhole cameras are installed on point-of-sale or self-service card readers to capture credit card information and personal identification numbers entered by the customer.

Employees should closely examine ATMs or other card readers for tampering before using them.

Similarly, USPS retail employees should inspect postal point-of-sale terminals and self-service kiosks for tampering. If the machines have been altered, call the Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.

The CyberSafe at USPS Blue, LiteBlue and USPSCyberSafe.com sites have more information.
