Brodhead, WI, Letter Carrier Brent Penniston had grown accustomed to seeing an older customer at mail delivery time.
Penniston usually spotted the man sitting in his living room, so it was worrisome when the customer’s mail piled up over several days recently and he was nowhere to be seen.
The Postal Service employee got no answer when he rang the man’s bell, so he alerted a neighbor, who contacted police.
Officers soon discovered the man collapsed in a bathroom, in dire need of medical attention.
After hospital and nursing home stays, “he is back home and very happy,” Penniston said. “He thanked me about 10 times.”
Penniston’s actions were also recognized in a local newspaper recurring feature called “A Little Good News,” which concluded, “His kindness made a huge difference this week.”
