Adia Airitam, a Postal Inspection Service operations technician in Pasadena, CA, was recently visiting her husband in a hospital when she noticed something unusual: A door that had always been closed was ajar.
Airitam investigated and found a man collapsed on the floor.
She alerted staff, who discovered that the man — a missing hospital employee — was not breathing.
He was resuscitated by emergency responders.
“So many times we just look away, let someone else deal with it, don’t have time, have our own problems,” said Airitam’s supervisor, Inspection Service Administration Manager Memrie Davies.
“It’s a special person who sees something and takes action.”
