Postal Service employees in Florida and Iowa recently responded to emergencies they encountered while delivering mail.
Madison, FL, City Carrier Assistant Kristin Blue stopped to assist a man who’d fallen when his wife was getting him out of their car and into a wheelchair.
Blue called 911 and stayed with the couple until emergency responders arrived.
In Albia, IA, Rural Carrier Mary Conway heard a woman screaming for help as she stood next to a man slumped over the steering wheel of a riding lawn mower.
Conway rushed over and found that the man wasn’t breathing and had no pulse.
While 911 was called, Conway and a neighbor took the man off the mower and performed CPR on him until emergency responders arrived.
The man, Lyle Goodson, who was an out-of-town Postal Service employee spending time at his weekend home, did not survive.
