Postal Service workers in Illinois and California recently responded to emergencies they encountered while making deliveries.
Monmouth, IL, Letter Carrier Amanda Schneider checked on a customer whose mail was accumulating.
When she knocked on the woman’s door, the customer cried out for help.
Schneider called 911, and emergency responders soon discovered that the woman had been stranded for several days after falling down a flight of stairs.
The customer was hospitalized for treatment of her injuries.
In Tollhouse, CA, Crystal Coutu, a contract delivery service carrier, had a package for a residential address where she found an unresponsive man outside.
Coutu alerted the customer’s wife and called 911.
The man, who had low heart and blood pressure rates, recovered from the incident after a brief hospitalization.
