Letter Carrier Terry Brewer was preparing for his route recently in Chicago when he made a surprising discovery.
His sorted mail contained a large amount of cash in an open envelope identified only with a return address for a local law firm.
Brewer notified his supervisor, who phoned the law firm and determined that an attorney there had lost the money.
The grateful lawyer soon retrieved the cash, and he later mailed a letter to the Post Office, praising the carrier for speaking up.
“The honesty shown by Mr. Brewer is a further testament of the selfless dedication that so many in the United States Postal Service exhibit day in and day out,” he wrote.
