Two Postal Service customers who were recently vacationing away from their Great Falls, MT, home were spared extensive property damage from a flooded yard, thanks to a keen-eyed letter carrier.
Kenneth Craig was delivering mail when he noticed an unusual amount of standing water outside the residence.
He alerted neighbors, who determined a broken lawn sprinkler valve was the root of the problem.
One of the homeowners later contacted the local Post Office to thank Craig.
“Had he been less observant or less caring, our basement would surely have been flooded by rising, uncontrolled water,” the man wrote.
“Because of his quick actions on that day, the damage was limited to a small area. He is obviously dedicated to his job and those he serves, and my wife and I congratulate him on a job well done.”
