Scanning snapshot. The Postal Service’s national scanning rating was 97.82 percent during the week ending Aug. 18, up from one week earlier.
Dakotas (99.2 percent) topped the districts, while Western (98.07 percent) led the areas.

Tag it. The Postal Service is reminding employees to ensure mail sacks, tubs and trays have properly secured distribution and routing (D&R) tags.
Approximately 3,000 handling units — including mail sacks, tubs and trays — are rejected from sorting every day, often because of missing D&R tags.
To ensure D&R tags are properly secured, employees should:
- Remove old D&R tags and routing labels when emptying sacks and other handling units.
- Make sure the landing strip adheres to the sack and the D&R tag is placed on the landing strip.
- Return all sacks that are damaged or missing landing strips to your local Mail Transport Equipment Service Centers for repair.
