Postal Service employees in Texas and Oregon kept cool heads when crises flared up recently while they were delivering mail.
Brownwood, TX, Letter Carrier Patricia Gutierrez encountered a man running from four dogs attacking him. She honked her horn to distract the animals and helped the man get to a safe area, where she called for medical assistance.
In Salem, OR, Letter Carrier Kimberly Smith witnessed a car striking a 72-year-old woman at her mailbox, causing life-threatening injuries. Smith intervened and ensured that the driver remained on the scene until emergency responders arrived.
“It’s all about kindness and … doing what’s right,” she later told a local TV station.
Charges against the driver included DUI and second-degree assault.
