Rural Carrier Bryon Ivett was recently delivering mail to a customer’s home in Gowanda, NY, when he saw the man sprawled out in his front yard.
Ivett rushed to help him get up, but the man was unable to stand.
The Postal Service employee located a piece of cardboard in the customer’s garage and placed it underneath him for protection from the wet ground.
Suspecting that something was seriously wrong, Ivett called 911 and stayed on the scene until emergency responders arrived.
The customer’s son later contacted the local Post Office.
He thanked Ivett for his assistance and explained that the man was hospitalized for treatment of a stroke.
